Rich's German Rollers

Rich's German Rollers

My name is Rich May, and I breed, train, and show German Roller Canaries on both the local and National level.  I first got involved with Roller canaries back in the seventies when I was a college student, and kept and bred them simply because I loved the song.  After several years I had to give them up because I was moving frequently and felt it wasn't fair to the birds to be uprooted and moved around.  After settling in Ohio for good I started wanting to get involved in Rollers again, so after doing some research and attending a Roller Canary Song Show I obtained some very good stock from a well known breeder and Roller Judge.  This led to joining the Central States Roller Canary Breeders Assocaition and the Lou Abbott German Roller Club.  I decided to try my hand at showing the Rollers, so I obtained some show cages and went about learning how to train and show the birds.  It took me a few years of trail and error, but I started moving up the ranks.  I started out in the Novice class, and after a few years advanced to Amateur, then Champion, and finally achieved Master Breeder with a big win at the Lou Abbott Roller Show in Chicago in 2007.  My birds won the Champion Class, Champion Young Team, Grand Champion Team, Champion Individual Bird, and several tour specials.  When I first joined the Lou Abbott Roller Club it was the only show I attended, but the club decided we needed to join up with the Natiional Cage Bird Show to advance the interest and exposure to German Rollers.  I joined the National Cage Bird Show and have been showing Rollers at the National as well.  At the National Cage Bird Show in Lansing, Michigan in 2009 I obtained two males out of recent German imports and used them in my breeding program.  I look forward to hearing the song quality of my young birds carrying the new blood.  My intent is to add some photos of my birds both breeding and training so that you may see the process.  All photos on these pages are property of Rich May and may not be copied or used without my permission.  Thanks for stopping by.
